I stayed at the San Sebastian in mid July and found it to be quite a relaxing experience. For those that know first hand or know of the reputation of Sitges, it can either be a very wild or a very mild experience, depending on what you're looking for. I was in need of some r&r and the San Sebastian provided a break from some urban intensive traveling. I arrived via train from Barcelona and given that i was loaded with luggage, i opted for a 7 euro cab ride instead of walking, but if you are light on the luggage its only about a ten minute walk and their was a tourist booth with english speaking folks guiding people right outside of the train station. When I arrived at the hotel, i was greeted by very friendly english speaking staff. The check-in was quick and I was shown to my room on the 2nd floor. Although the hotel is located directly across from the beach, i received a room with a pool view, which was fine, as it was quiet. The room was quite spacious and clean and decorated very simply. The bathroom was large, very clean and offered a decent array of bath products.

The only surprise that I encountered was that breakfast was not included. The first morning I was not asked for my room number, so naturally i assumed it was covered in my room charges. The second morning I found out, and it was quite a lofty amount, I believe approx 15 euro. Its a nice restaurant to sit in the morning, as you're fronting the sea, and they offered a good selection of pastries and some other items (eggs, bacon, most western style), however you can take a nice stroll through town and grab you're cafe con leche and pastry at several other places for a fraction of that.

Right across the street was a very nice beach, which you could either opt to pay for a lounge and be under some shade or simply layout out on a towel. The private portion is not affiliated with the hotel, however I paid for private a few days and never had a problem getting a spot, as this was a much quieter beach than on the other side of town. The location of the hotel also offered a fair amount of restaurant choices, including a great argentinian place i kept going back to (steak empanadas were amazing).

In terms of nightlife, this hotel is probably about 15-20 minute walk from the main area of town. So if you're looking for a quiet, relaxing experience in a beautiful spanish coastal town, I'd say give this hotel a try.

We selected San Sebastian based upon rave reviews from others. However, we thought the hotel was nice but overrated.

First, the hotel is somewhat difficult to find because the main entrance and parking garage entrance is on a dead-end side street off of a one-way street along the beach. Make sure you have a good map if driving.

The front desk had English-speaking persons. Parking there is very expensive in a tight underground garage - 16euro per day.

The room was clean and nice and had a safe and minibar and tv that included CNN, Fox, and Spanish Playboy. The room has a balcony that faced the side street but you could see the ocean if you turned your head sideways.

There is a computer with free internet at the main desk.

There is a very nice pool in an enclosed courtyard, and the hotel was right on the waterfront promenade with numerous restaurants and shops all around.

Overall, a good experience. Sitges is a very nice, quiet city. The San Sebastian was a little overpriced, we thought, but otherwise in a great location and had a nice room. We would probably stay again.

We stayed here the last three nights of a three week trip, mainly spent in the south of France. We were looking for a quiet, relaxing, semi-luxurious place with easy access to Barcelona, and this fit the bill. While it's true that there was no help with the luggage, that didn't strike me as a problem, since we're used to schlepping our own stuff and it avoided the confusion of wondering how much to tip. Otherwise, the desk staff were very helpful, and they spoke English! One reason I chose this hotel is because it has parking. I was unable to determine beforehand whether or not it was included in the room rate, and it wasn't -- it's 15 euros additional. We arrived on a busy Sunday and used the hotel parking that day, but afterwards found free street parking.

Stayed at the San Sebastian Playa for 2 nights- Sitges is a short train ride from Barcelona and the hotel is walking distance from the train station.

The location is PERFECT. It is right on the beach with small eateries right out side. It is a short 5-10 minute walk into town to shopping, more restaurants, and nightlife. The walk is great though- right along the ocean.

Had a standard room with two beds. The rooms are not luxurious by any means but they are perfect for a beach stay...clean and cozy and a 5 second walk to a nice beach.

The hotel also provides beach towels for its guests and internet access if you need it!

One downer about our room was that we couldn't get the AC to work but wound up not fussing with it too much because we slept with the balcony doors open and it was cool at night (our room was on the 3rd floor). We didn't get a room facing the ocean, but we had beautiful ocean views from our balcony.

Based on location alone, I would highly recommend this hotel for a beach getaway.

I love Sitges and have stayed many times over the last few years. This was the first time I have used this hotel though as local friends had heard mixed reviews. I must say though that it was just what was required.
Refurbished for the 2006 season, all 51 rooms have aircon. They weren't big but well furnished with very pleasant bedding. Each has a balcony complete with electric shutters to block out the light when needed. Rooms have nicely stocked mini bar, safe, well stocked bathroom including two bath robes. Compared to some much more expensive hotels in Sitges ( it's not a cheap town to visit ) it was excellent value. English speaking staff were pleasant and helpful. Hotel is right on one of the main beaches, which is lucky as the hotel only has a small shaded pool.
The hotel is located just at the ebfore the main town centre. This means it's quiet at night but still only a 5 minute walk from the all night action and restaruants.
An excellent hotel for couples or families.

This is a lovely property that lives up to its reputation. The location is great because it is on San Sebastian beach which is beautiful and very central but not on the main strip (which is only a 5-10 minute walk away) like most of the beachfront hotels so it is relatively quiet. The rooms are clean, modern, spacious and lovely. Each has a balcony, though I would definitely say to splurge for the ones with a sea view, since the view is spectacular while the pool and street views, though OK, leave something to be desired. The staff are not the warmest but they are friendly and helpful when approached. The pool and pool area are nice, though right outside a big meeting room and there are not many lounge chairs (and no bar). It's not heated and was very cold in late May, but I imagine that's not a problem during or right after the summer. Bottom line is that I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

me and my mum stayed at this hotel for four nites from the 9th of April. I couldnt doubt it!! we stayed in room 114 and it was gorgeous, clean, good decor, brilliant sized bathroom with a a lovely
shower and bath. fully stacked mini-bar and television. Beds were really comfy and fresh bedding, 3 pillows each and extra in the wardrobe if you wanted!! Bath robes aswell which were lovely too! air conditioning wasnt on, but we didnt need it as we hardly saw any sun :(

I do think that the locals were very rude, and in some restaurants all they wanted was your money basically. we stayed at a steak house,
its on the corner about 30 metres from the hotel, that was gorgeous, brilliant service and gorgeous food and not a bad price.

We stayed in Sitges mainly to visit barcelona and we travelled by train most of the time, when you get there use the tourist bus, you can get on and off as many times as you want throughout the day at the main attractions.

Lovely holiday, Lovely hotel HIGHLY RECCOMENED!!!

We have just returned from 4 days in this hotel. The position we felt was the best in Sitges...it was right on the sandy beach but away from the main promenade. The rooms are a good size and very clean. We overlooked the pool, whilst our friends overlooked the side street. We thought we had the best room, until the Easter break was over then we got the noise at 8a.m. onwards from the builders working on the property next door. This was annoying, and will probably go on for quite a while. We realise that the hotel has no control over that and would return another time. The garden is small with pool, but fine, as you can cross over to the beach in the afternoon. The breakfasts were excellent with lots of fresh fruit and delicious bread etc. We ate out in the evenings because we thought the restaurant was expensive.
Overall a very good choice.

We visited Sitges the end of May and stayed at the Hotel San Sebastian. There were 3 adults traveling together, so we opted for the King suite....what a room! There was a full living/sitting area, huge closets that divided the sitting area from the bedroom, and a large king bed with a great balcony and incredible views of the sea and the city. Yes, you will pay more for a suite with a sea view (we paid about $220€ per night), but for us it was well worth it. You can leave the balcony doors open in the evening and fall asleep to the crashing waves of the sea.

We booked our reservation online with the hotel and they were very quick about answering our questions via email. Required a credit card to hold the room, but did not get billed for anything until we arrived, and they have a generous cancellation policy, I believe just a few days notice to cancel and lose nothing.

Check in and check out were fine, service was what we would expect at this type of hotel. The three of us tried to find at least one thing to share that was a negative, and the only thing we could come up with is that we had to leave! Unless you have exceedingly high standards for a hotel by the sea in a small town like Sitges, I cannot imagine you being disappointed with this room. We would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at this hotel for 5 days starting in early June, 2005. I was a little apprehensive about my stay especilally after reading some of the other reviews on this site. However, I managed to secure an excellent rate of 63 Euro per night, including breakfast, for single use of a twin room through Utell. I found the reception staff to be very professional - they managed to sort out a balcony door that would not close, a safe that would not work and a bulb that had fused within 1 hour of me checking in. The room was very spacious as was the bathroom - even had nice fluffy bathrobes. The electric shutter that came down to keep out the light on the blacony doors was especially welcome for afternoon naps and morning lie ins. I can't comment on the breakfast as I never made it down in time in the mornings. The location of the hotel is excellent on lovely San Sebastian Playa Beach. if you get a good rate at this hotel - go for it - I really liked it and will be back!

While the service was not stellar, the San Sebastion Playa was an excellent hotel. We had a suite with three small balconies with fabulous ocean views. The hotel was clean and attractive, and the staff helpful. Location was great.

A year ago, my family stayed in Sitges at the San Sebastion Playa hotel for my daughter's Spanish wedding. It is about an hour south of Barcelona and across the street from the Med. It was PERFECT; beautiful rooms, great service, an excellent retaurant. It was my third time in the Barcelona area and encourage those of you who want a wonderful experience to stay in Sitges and relax in style.

I'm always a little worried about beach hotels as they are never quite the same standard as that of a city hotel and if you are really unlucky you could end up cattle prodded into a property full of white vest wearing package holiday makers - without sounding too much of a snob - not much fun. After a bit of research on the trusty internet, i felt that this hotel was possibly the best of a bad bunch, so went ahead and booked. And on arrival at the hotel i was pleasantly surprised, the room was clean modern and tastefully decorated, the bathroom, although small had a bath and all the amenities you could wish of a four star hotel. But what really made my day was the view, we had paid for a full sea view and it was worth every penny, falling to sleep listening to the waves crash against the shores had me de-stressing and forgetting about work in no time. All in all i would say, it might not be a four seasons but you wont go far wrong in this hotel.
